Reports in Spain saw Alaves’ 19-year-old left back, Theo Hernandez, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid, on Monday completed a medical examination ahead of signing a five-year contract Madrid.
The defender, who scored the only goal of the game as Alaves defeated Athletic Club Bilbao 1-0 on Sunday, has a 25 million Euro buyout clause with Atletico, where his brother, Lucas is a member of the Atletico first team squad.
Atletico are understood to be very unhappy at the move, which unilaterally breaks a pact between them and their neighbors stating that neither would poach each other’s players, but the Spanish press adds they will attempt to try and force the price up to around 30 million euros.
The move also comes just two days before Atletico attempt to overturn the 3-0 defeat they suffered to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between the two sides and is likely to increase the tension in that match.
FC Barcelona were also reported to be interested in Theo, but the defender preferred to join Real Madrid where he will have a salary of around 3.5 million Euros a year.
Alaves meanwhile published a statement on the club website stating they knew nothing about Theo’s Real Madrid medical and did not know where the player was.
