Arsenal are all set to challenge Manchester United for the signing of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.
The Gunners tried to sign the Frenchman in the summer but were out-rightly rejected.
However, the reason back then was that the France international had just signed a new long-term contract that would keep him at the club till 2021.
However, a lot has changed since then – and it is expected that there could be a bidding war for the player who was recently voted as the third best player in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Arsenal’s approach was made despite knowing that they would have to shell out £85 million in order to meet his release clause but the Gunners are still confident despite the fee being unprecedented for them.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are confident that they can land the star with his compatriot Paul Pogba trying to convince him to join the Old Trafford outfit.
United are also likely to offer Griezmann a much better wage packet than Arsenal, although the Gunners are pretty aware that they will have to shell out more than £250,000-a-week for a player of Antoine’s stature.
Although, any deal will only depend on whether Atletico want to sell their prized asset.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation and could make a late entry into the picture.
Griezmann has been caught playing Football Manager with Chelsea on multiple occasions and was heavily linked with Chelsea in the last two transfer windows.
