French football legend Zinedine Zidane has said that if Paris Saint-Germain signs Argentina and Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria, it would be an undeniable boon to the Ligue 1 champions.
“He’s the kind of player that can take you to the next stage. That’s what they need to go further in the Champions League,” Efe quoted 1998 FIFA World Cup winner Zidane as saying on Wednesday.
According to former Real Madrid star Zidane, PSG have a team effective enough to dominate French championships, but players like Di Maria are what make the difference in Europe.
“Angel Di Maria can contribute his energy, the difference he makes when he accelerates, he has the quality to do something,” Zidane, who trained Di Maria as the assistant coach of Real Madrid under Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti during the 2013-2014 season, said.
Sports media outlets in France point out that the signing is imminent, adding that PSG will secure the transfer from United for about 63 million euros ($69.5 million).
Zidane, who scored 31 goals in 108 matches for France, is the current head coach of Real Madrid’s reserve side, Castilla.
