Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has said that he is “worried” about reduced game-time but hopes to continue at the club for a long time.
The Croatian international has fallen down the pecking order this season.
Rakitic has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, but insists that he is happy at the club.
The 28-year-old was included in the starting line-up for the Blaugrana’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the first-leg of the Copa Del Rey on Thursday.
However, first-team opportunities have been limited for the star this season, leaving many wondering if his time at Barcelona is all but over.
Rakitic on the other-hand has come forward to clarify that he hopes to be at the club for a long-time.
His current contract with the club runs till June 2019.
“I hope that I can continue here for many years. I want to renew my contract with Barcelona,” Rakitic said.
“I am worried because I always want to play but I have absolute confidence in the coach. I need to work but I’m confident.”
The Croatia international has 13 appearances to his name so far this season, out of which 10 as starter – having scored two goals.
The former Sevilla man has played in 24 games in all competition so far this season.
