Wayne Rooney believes Everton can help him win back his England place.
Rooney, 31, has set his heart on an emotional return to Goodison Park and the move could be completed within the next 48 hours.
Manchester United striker Rooney and his advisers are now finalising the switch with it now more likely to be a permanent move with a two or three year contract rather than a loan.
But Rooney has never given up on England despite losing his place in the squad, and has not officially lost his status as captain.
Rooney, record scorer for club and country, still believes that a good season with goals and consistent performances could put him back in the frame for the World Cup.
Everton are trying to keep Rooney’s move separate to Romelu Lukaku’s switch in the opposite direction, so one is not waiting on the other but clearly United are using it as leverage to get the Belgium striker.
