Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has put talks over a new contract on hold and will begin negotiations only after the World Cup.
And according to reports, Real Madrid could now reignite their interest in the Man City forward, who was heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu two years ago.
The Three Lions forward is now eyeing to win the Premier League title this season and is also focussed on maintaining his sublime form for his country in the build up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
But he has now put talks over a new contract on hold and this could put Real Madrid and other top-flight European clubs on red alert.
Sterling has displayed incredible form for City this season and has sealed a permanent place in their star-studded line-up – with nine Premier League goals already to his name this campaign.
Sterling had joined Man City from Liverpool on a £49m deal in 2015 and has two years left on his current £180,000-a-week deal at the Etihad.
Arsenal had shown huge interest in signing Sterling during the summer transfer window but the Three Lions forward opted to stay and fight for his place in Guardiola’s squad.
He surpassed all expectations following his incredible form this campaign and has become an integral part of Guardiola’s plans.
Man City are yet to begin contract talks but it is believed that the club bosses will try to begin negotiations before next summer with Sterling emerging as one of the most sought after players in Europe right now.
