Manchester United are reportedly negotiating a deal with Champions League winners Real Madrid for Colombian superstar James Rodriguez.
The Colombian’s current contract at Real Madrid is due to expire in 2020 but he is keen on making a move out of Madrid in search of regular football.
Rodriguez has found life unhappy under Zidane and has been highly linked with a move away to Manchester United in the summer due to lack of game-time.
James made only 13 starts in the La Liga last season.
And according to reports in Spain, James wants his future to be decided by today as he is not willing to travel with the Real Madrid squad for their pre-season tour in the USA.
Chelsea have also shown huge interest in the Colombian attacking midfielder but Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is confident that he can hijack the out-of-favour Real Madrid from under the noses of the Blues.
The Portuguese manager has already secured the signatures of Victor Lindelof from Benfica and is on the brink of completing a £75million deal for Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
And FootTheBall sources claim that Mourinho has now stepped up his pursuit for James with the Red Devils bosses in talks with Real Madrid to land the Colombian at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney has now moved back to his boyhood club Everton after 13 years on a two-year-deal.
And Mourinho wants James to fill in the void and club president Ed Woodward is leaving no stone unturned to rope him in.
Man Utd have given up their chase for Alvaro Morata after agreeing a fee with Everton for Lukaku, who has already completed his United medical and will join the Red Devils squad in the US for their pre-season tour.
Real Madrid had set a staggering price tag of £80m for Morata but sources reveal that the Red Devils will have to splurge something around £62m in order to strike a deal with the La Liga giants for securing the services of James.
