Former Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante has revealed how he snubbed a move to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United this summer.
New Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho had made a phone call to the French midfielder for convincing him to make a switch to Old Trafford.
Mourinho was desperate to add more strength to his already revamped squad and was willing to offer £25m for securing the signatures of Kante.
However, the talented midfielder who played a pivotal role in Leicester’s Premier League title triumph last season chose to snub a move to Man Utd before joining Chelsea this summer.
Kante completed his move to Conte’s Chelsea back in July for a transfer fee of £30m. Leicester City has been successful in holding back their star players with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, Kasper Schmeicel, Danny Drinkwater – all signing new long-term contracts with the club.
Kante became the only key player from Leicester’s title winning team, to exit the club during the summer transfer window.
Kante revealed: “It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d been warned before how he would appeal to me. I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United.
“But at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea. My discussions with them were already well underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with Conte.”
Manchester United and Chelsea have made a flying start to the new season, after winning all the first three Premier League games and sits below Manchester City on the points table, separated only by the number of goals forwarded.
Kante has clinched a first team place at Chelsea and has been on the pitch very minute in Chelsea’s new season campaign so far.
