Chelsea are making moves in the transfer market. However, there’s a slight twist in their approach this time around.
The Blues have focused on outgoings before they run around and splash the cash on potential new signings. Last season, the Chelsea squad had up to 34 first-team players in their dressing room, leading to players changing outside the allotted area.
This season, under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Todd Boehly and Co have taken a different approach. The strategy of signing young players from across Europe is still there and the Stamford Bridge outfit are looking to build a team for the future.
Part of that future is Chelsea Academy graduate Charlie Webster. The England youth international has recently completed a move to Eredivisie side Heerenveen, which is also his first move outside Stamford Bridge.
He has often been dubbed as the next Jaden Sancho, but not many fans know much about him. Here’s all you need to understand about Webster in his short career so far.
Who is Charlie Webster?
Charlie Webster has been at Chelsea since the age of 10. He joined the Chelsea academy and started his Cobham journey with the U10’s and since then has played with multiple age groups at Chelsea.
He left home at the age of 13 with the dream of playing for Chelsea Fc at a senior level one day. Webster revealed that his family played a big part in his decision to leave at such a young age and to be the best player he can be.
Even at such a tender age, the Chelsea youngster was never distracted by the noise around him and was always focused on improving himself. Getting the best out of himself in every training session was always the target for Webster. He also said to the Official Chelsea Website, “I could not have made a better decision than joining Chelsea”, which speaks volumes about the love for the London club.
Charlie Webster scout report
A player who likes to attack every given chance and ball with intensity, Charlie Webster is always on the front foot. He has developed a natural knack for leadership in him ever since his academy days.
For someone who likes to enjoy his football while he’s on the pitch, rather than personal praises, Webster has been headed in the right direction since day one. He was recently linked with German giants Borussia Dortmund and since he has been dubbed ‘The next Sancho’, the Bundesliga club would like Webster to replace him.
The Blues and Webster himself had something else planned and he recently completed a move to Dutch club Heerenveen. A midfielder by trade, Webster is the perfect example and combination of resilience and elegance in the middle of the park.
Given that Webster only signed his first professional contract at Chelsea at the age of 17 in 2021, it is the first of many to come. And with his qualities on show, both on and off the pitch, the potential is just beyond imagination for the young midfielder.
