Debutant Iceland caused the biggest upset in Euro 2016 as they defeated England 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
England were ahead in the 2nd minute as Wayne Rooney launched a venomous penalty kick to beat the goalkeeper at the bottom right corner after Sterling was hacked down inside the box by the Irish goalkeeper Halldorsson.
However, Iceland immediately came back into the game as Ragnar Sigurdsson got on the end of a long throw from Kari Arnason before sliding down to tap the ball home from close range.
England dominated possession but Iceland increased their lead in the 18th minute when striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson fired in a venomous strike from the edge of the box and Hart got a touch to it but couldn’t stop the ball from finding the net.
England suffered their worst Defeat in history and failed to qualify for the quarter-finals as Roy Hodgson’s side were unable to create any good chances in the second half, managing only two shots in 45 minutes.
