Luis Suarez has penned a new mega-deal with La Liga giants Barcelona.
The new bumper contract will keep Suarez at the Spanish side until June 30, 2021.
Barcelona officially announced on Twitter that their star forward Suarez has committed his future to the club after signing a new deal.
The tweet read: @LuisSuarez9 will continue @FC Barcelona until 2012 #Suarez2021.
Earlier, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had said: “It’s done. Just a few small details need to be sorted.”
“We want Luis Suarez to stay at the club for many more years. For us, he is an important character.”
After proving his class in the Premier League for Liverpool, Suarez held on to his incredible form after joining Barcelona and clinched last season’s European Golden Shoe award – which is handed to the Europe’s highest scorer in domestic football – with 40 league goals to his name.
Suarez formed a rock-solid partnership with Messi – Barca’s all-time top scorer – and Neymar. The trio anchored the Barca attack last season and netted a combined 131 goals in all competitions to guide Barcelona to La Liga title triumph and also the Copa del Rey.
And club president the radio station Cadena Celeste: “It will be a great Christmas present, not necessarily for Luis as he already knows he’s going to continue here, but for football fans.”
“He forms part of this spectacular trident we have, which helps the entire team function.”
The former Liverpool man made a good start this season with a hat-trick at home against Real Betis but has fell short to match his last season’s form – scoring only 7 goals in the next 13 matches.
Suarez also has a Champions League title to his name after joining Barcelona in 2014 form Premier League side Liverpool for a whooping transfer fee of £75m.
