Southampton cruised to a 3-1 victory over Burnley at home with Charlie Austin grabbing a brace to see off Sean Dyche’s side who now lie at 14th position.
Mike Dean decided not to give away a penalty to the away side in the first half when Virgil Van Dijk fouled Johann Berg Gudmundsson in the penalty area which left the Burnley boss fuming as he expressed: “We knew they were a good side and in a good run of form, especially defensively. It’s very difficult when you come to these places, particularly when we can’t get a decision.”
“I’m stunned by our penalty that wasn’t given. I’ve seen it back and am absolutely amazed. They’re a really good side and made it a really tough afternoon for us. But it’s not helpful when it’s 0-0 and you should have a penalty. Who knows after that? It changes the dynamic in the ground and the whole feel of the game.”
Eventually the Saints came out on top in the second half when Charlie Austin scored two goals along with Nathan Redmond who volleyed the ball following an unattended corner.
Sam Vokes later converted a penalty in the 72nd minute which was not enough initiate a comeback. Southampton rise to 8th in the league table leaving the Clarets without any points in the last two Premier league outings.
