Iran’s Persepolis football team beat Al Wahda 4-2 in Group D to secure a position in the Round of 16 of the 2017 AFC Champions League.
The match was held in Tehran’s Azadi stadium on Monday in the presence of large number of heartily excited spectators.
In order for the Iranian team to qualify for the next stage, they also needed the group leader Al Hilal’s victory over Al Rayyan in Group D.
The dreams of the host came true as Al Hilal defeated Rayyan 4-3 in Doha.
In Group C, another Iranian soccer team Zob Ahan on Monday sustained a 2-0 defeat and opened the path for Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli to confirm their place in the knockout phase of the Round of 16 of the 2017 AFC Champions League.
In the next stage, Persepolis will meet the forerunner of Group B and Al Ahli will face the second team from Group A.
