SKY BLUES SCRAPE THROUGH

Published on:

Manchester City won their 4th game of the league away from home against Leicester in what was a game too close to call. Leicester City came close many times but City’s defensive wall refused to budge.

Manchester City kicked off their season with a defeat against Spurs but have fared well in their next 2 opening games before the international break. City have scored 5 goals each against Norwich and Arsenal and haven’t conceded a single goal against them.

A win against a team of Leicester City calibre will assure their fans that they have got things under control and are reaching for the trophy even with the tough competition in the Premier League this time around.

Leicester City have still not found the consistency they were looking for having lost horrendously in their 2nd game against West Ham. Leicester City were playing at home and a win against the defending champions was just the thing they needed to find momentum after the international break.

It was a goalless but an entertaining first half affair and even though Manchester City dominated the possession like they always do, Leicester would be happy with their performance so far. Leicester City has been solid on the counter so far as City is continuously looking for that magic moment.

City have taken many shots on goal but they seldom reach the keeper since their shots were blocked by Leicester’s defenders. City would be hoping to have a better showing when it comes to finishing the ball since their overall game has been almost excellent.

Bernardo Silva found the net in the 61st minute after a long shot by Cancelo was deflected inside the box and Silva was at the right place at the right time to poach the ball. Leicester opened up more and started pushing ahead after conceding but they failed to cheer up the home fans in the end.

FERRAN TORRES NOT READY YET

It was a frustrating game for City supporters since even after creating a myriad of chances, they did;t have anything to show for. Against weaker opponents, Ferran Torres fared well since his positioning was good enough to beat the opposing defenders.

Leicester’s backline was on top of Torres and they never let the false-9 get comfortable on the ball. City kept trying to find Torres inside the box and when they failed to do so, the attackers just started taking shots from far out which was easily blocked by the Foxes.

Torres was subbed after they scored their opening goal and the player headed into the dressing room after a disappointing outing.

FOXES STRONG ON THE COUNTER

Leicester City didn’t have much of the ball considering their opponents but their counters were on point and enough to worry City’s backline. Jamie Vardy’s pace and work on the ball made him lethal while he darted across the pitch cutting through City defenders.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes were ready on the edge of the box for Vardy’s cut-in ball and although they failed to score, they came close more than often. Ruben Dias and Laporte need to be quicker both physically and mentally while fending off the counter since City play their backline so far up ahead.

CRUCIAL SUBSTITUTIONS BY RODGERS

Brendan Rodgers made some important substations obe the second half that had a positive impact on their game. Iheanacho and Lookman stepped onto the pitch hoping to get the leveller and to do that they had to be more aggressive and dominant against the mighty City.

They made their game more open by pushing more players upfront and Lookman and Iheanacho’s pace was a big plus for the home side since they pushed the ball up ahead with ease.

Since Leicester were gradually inching towards a goal, Guardiola subbed off Gabriel Jesus and put Fernandino in since the experienced midfielder was good enough to hold off Leicester’s exciting and young attacking lineup.
