Jose Mourinho has told the Manchester United scouts that he wants to sign a ‘magician’ in January.
The Red Devils splurged almost £150million to rope in Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic in the summer.
Mourinho also wanted to sign one more wide player during the summer transfer window to provide competition for Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata. He had identified Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic as his top target but Man Utd failed to push through the deal for the Croatian winger.
The Portuguese boss is now worried about the lack of goals within his side despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning from injury to compete with Lukaku for a place in the starting XI.
Man Utd are eight points behind arch-rivals and current league leaders Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s Man City are in red-hot form this season and have dropped just two points so far.
And ‘The Special One’ is desperate to close the gap on City by signing a ‘magician’ in January.
According to The Sun, Mourinho is keen to rope in a creative player during the January transfer window.
The Portuguese believes that his squad needs a magician, who can unlock defences.
Manchester United was again linked with Atletico Madrid’s Antone Griezmann in the recent months but sources claim that Mourinho will not make a move for the French striker.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Gunners contract rebel Mesut Ozil and it is believed that the German star is set to leave Arsenal either in January or by the end of the season.
Ozil’s current contract expires next summer and he is playing hardball with Wenger as his representatives are holding out for a bumper new contract, which the Arsenal bosses are not willing to pay.
