Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez has won the African Player of the Year for 2016.
The Algerian international was awarded the coveted prize for his contribution in the Foxes title winning 2015/16 campaign.
Mahrez beat Borussia Dortmund’s defending champion Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who won the prize in 2015.
Mahrez had won the PFA Player of the Year award after shooting Leicester City to a phenomenal Premier League title win last season with 17 goals and 11 assists.
However, Riyad has been struggling to recapture his form from last season as he has just netted three goals and two assists this season in the league, although the Algerian has been sensational in the Champions League.
The Foxes won 361 votes at the official CAF awards followed by Aubamayang with 313 votes.
Liverpool’s revealtion star of the year Sadio Mane won 186 votes at CAF awards and finished third.
The three superstars will now face-off in the African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
