Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo have held talks with former Brazil international midfielder Romulo as they seek to strengthen their squad for next year’s Copa Libertadores, according to media reports.
Romulo’s current deal with Spartak Moscow expires in June meaning he will be free to sign a pre-contract with another club in January.
According to Globo Esporte, the 26-year-old met with Flamengo officials on Tuesday to discuss contract terms.
Romulo was considered one of Brazil’s most promising central midfielders before being struck down by a serious knee injury in 2012.
He has been capped eight times for Brazil and was part of the team that claimed the silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic football tournament.
