Is Haaland the Key to Manchester City Winning the Champions League?

Well, the dotted line has been signed, and Erling Haaland has officially made his move to Manchester City. The striker is one of the most sought-after players on the market, considered second only to famed PSG player Kylian Mbappe.

So, Man City had to pull out a lot of stops to get this done. A deal a year in the making, there were negotiations, even with the player’s father, a lot of seduction, especially since Haaland was staring at Real Madrid from across the room, hoping they’d notice, and of course, a lot of cash involved. Namely, a whopping £51.1 million.

But was the money worth it? Is Haaland the silver bullet Man City need to get to the top of the Champions League? We’re exploring here.

What is Man City’s position?

It could be argued that Man City didn’t necessarily need to drop roughly £50 million on a new player with the position they’re in. Manager Pep Guardiola and his team have clawed and scratched their way to the top of the Premier League with the team going strong even this past weekend to score 4-0 against Leeds United. And it’s looking hopeful for a Champions League win after reaching the final in the last season, which was a first for Man City.

However, maybe Man City needs that final push to get them the win. Fans aren’t about to scoff at Man City’s dropping £50 million on the second most sought out football player on the market. In fact, if Twitter is anything to go by, fans are very excited. And it can only help. It might even be safe to say that Haaland might guarantee the Champions League trophy. Isn’t it?

Who is Haaland?

Erling Haaland, as explained, is one of the highest-ranking footballers on the market. His reputation alone would be enough for a team to fork over the big bucks to get Haaland on their side, which should explain why there were a lot of whispers about Man Utd, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

But this Norwegian striker’s reputation isn’t without merit. His time with his current team, Borussia Dortmund, making up three years, is scattered with awards and accolades. He is also a lead player in three Champions League seasons, consistently scoring for Borussia Dortmund, driving them higher in the Champions League table, and getting them to the quarter-finals during the 2020/2021 season.

He could be a key factor in the reason many neutrals find Premier League tickets. With global profile like his – he could be the face of the league itself.

Conclusion

It’s clear to see that Haaland will be an asset to Man City, but whether or not he will be enough is another question. The team’s drive without him has led them to the top of the Premier League table, but they’ll be playing with the big boys now and will need a big boy to support them. Perhaps, following on from the success of reaching the final of the 20/21 season, with the experience and skill of Haaland, they can get that final push to gain their first Champions League trophy.
