Brazil and Argentina are in negotiations to play an international friendly in Australia next year, according to widespread media reports.
Australian football officials are hoping to stage the match at the 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground in early June, Globo Esporte said, citing an article in the The Australian newspaper.
Australia’s national team would also play a friendly against either Argentina or Brazil as they fine-tune their preparations for the Confederations Cup in Russia, the report said.
The Brazilian Football Confederation did not comment on the reports on Tuesday.
Brazil and Argentina share one of international football’s most famous rivalries, having won seven World Cups between them.
The teams last met in a World Cup qualifier in November, which Selecao won 3-0 in Belo Horizonte.
