Josip Brekalo is the gamble of matchday three for Fantasy Bundesliga 2020/21 as Wolfsburg host Augsburg
Fantasy Bundesliga 2020/21 will feature matchday three on Friday – 2nd of October before the international break intervenes. The Fantasy Bundesliga managers will be itching to get ahead of their rivals as they will have to wait for two weeks to resume the battle after matchday three concludes on Sunday.
FootTheBall picks the top three players you must consider ahead of matchday three of the Fantasy Bundesliga 2020/21.
Emil Forsberg (€11.4m)
Forward – RB Leipzig
While we all are going crazy over Andrej Kramaric and his scoring feat this season, we need to put Emil Forsberg under the microscope ahead of matchday three. The RB Leipzig attacker has grabbed 25 points for the Fantasy Bundesliga managers, thus far.
Leipzig will host FC Schalke on Saturday. FootTheBall expects the Red Bulls to score at least three goals against the Royal Blues based on the form and scoring patterns. Forsberg is in contention to start once again for Julian Nagelsmann’s side. The Swedish attacker has registered total expected goals and assists tally of 1.36 in two games. He also has the second-highest shot-creation actions per 90 of 6.38 in the Bundesliga so far.
Forsberg is also Nagelsmann’s first choice for taking penalty kicks. His 3% popularity and a mid-budget valuation make him a value-pick for matchday three of the Fantasy Bundesliga 2020/21.
Josip Brekalo (€9.5m)
Midfielder – Vfl Wolfsburg
Leroy Sane is unavailable for the next four weeks. Jadon Sancho is unlikely to play against SC Freiburg on Saturday.
So, who is the next best-attacking option for the Fantasy Bundesliga managers?
Well, the matchday three fixture list seems to offer a slight benefit to Wolfsburg. Die Wolfe will play against FC Augsburg at home. While Oliver Glasner’s side has not been the best attacking teams so far, Josip Brekalo can bag you some decent amount of points for his price. Brekalo has attempted six shots in two games featuring Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg. His non-penalty expected goals per shot metric currently stand at a meagre 0.06 albeit he has already got a goal to his name.
Wolfsburg’s next game against FC Augsburg may see Brekalo getting involved in a bit more attacking drama upfront. He has averaged ten points per game for the Fantasy Bundesliga managers. With that price-tag, Brekalo is FootTheBall’s Fantasy Bundesliga gamble of the week.
Ludwig Augustinsson (€9.6m)
Defender – SV Werder Bremen
Die Werderaner will play at home against the new boys in the town, Arminia Bielefeld. Uwe Neuhaus’s side has been a tough nut to crack but Werder Bremen’s recent scoring feat poses a new challenge for Arminia.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Florian Kohfeldt’s system is his use of the full-backs/wing-backs. Ludwig Augustinsson has emerged as one of the best candidates to be considered ahead of matchday three of Fantasy Bundesliga 2020/21. Overlapping from the left flank, Augustinsson has delivered six key passes while accumulating a total expected assists score of 0.4. He has provided an assist in each of Werder Bremen’s last two games.

It’s a shame that only 4% of the Fantasy Bundesliga managers have identified Augustinsson’s true potential. He has already bagged 26 points and there is more to come from the Swedish left-back. Even if Arminia holds Werder at the Weserstadion, Augustinsson has a high chance to earn some points for a potential clean-sheet.
