Bayer Leverkusen have extended Rudi Voeller’ s contract ahead of schedule, the “Werkself” confirmed in an official statement on Monday.
The 56-year-old sporting director, whose contract was stipulated until 2017, signed a five-year extension to stay with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2022.
“We want consistency and continuity in the management of Bayer Leverkusen. In addition Rudi Voeller is not only a well-known personality in soccer but he is also the face of Leverkusen,” chairman of the supervisory body Werner Wenning said.
Voeller is since January 2005 Bayer Leverkusen’ s sporting director. The former Germany international played also from 1994 until 1996 for the “Werkself” where he scored 26 goals in 62 appearances.
“I am now connected to Bayer Leverkusen for over 20 year and I feel very well here. We have achieved a lot in this period. I am looking forward to further tasks and challenges,” Voeller said.
