After much speculation, Antonio Conte is finally off the job market! After Nuno was sacked in the wake of a dismal 0-3 defeat to an underfire Man United side, Spurs have hired Serie A winning coach Antonio Conte. Daniel Levy had been in Conte’s ears ever since Jose Mourinho’s dismissal before the Carabao Cup final in April. Now, after an ill-fated four-month reign by Nuno, Levy has finally got his man.

Nuno was clearly way down in Tottenham’s list of choices for the position in the summer, and his stay at the club has proved why. The crowd at their stadium had turned against the manager, and Levy had to make a change on priority. After flirting with Conte for a while, Levy will be pleased to have finally got his man.
AN EXPERIENCED HAND
Antonio Conte’s departure from Inter came under acrimonious circumstances. The Italian and the club owners had disagreements over the future of the club, with finances being the deal-breaker. Inter knew they had to sell players while Conte wanted to build. He had been immensely successful at San Siro, finishing runners-up in both Serie A and the Europa League in his first season before winning the Scudetto this year. That was Inter’s first title in 10 years.

Conte was one of the top names in the managerial market, along with Zinedine Zidane. He brings with him a wealth of experience having won titles previously with Juventus and of course, Chelsea in the Premier League. Levy will hope some of that magic will transfer on to his own team who are in dire need of silverware fast.
BIG SEASON AHEAD
After winning his first three games of the season, Nuno’s reign fell off the rails as comprehensive defeats followed. Tottenham now sit 8th in the table with 15 points from 10 games, already conceding 16 goals. Conte’s first job will be to tighten up the defence.
Striker Harry Kane has not seemed up to it, after his move to Manchester City collapsed in the summer. He has started the season like a man who has checked off mentally. If there is one manager who gets players out of their trance, it is Antonio Conte.
A thirst for silverware has been one of the pronounced themes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a while now. In Antonio Conte, the London team finally has a proven winner in the dugout. If Conte is armed with support from the board and financial backing, then he is as close to a guarantee of success as there is in the footballing world today. Exciting times could be ahead for Spurs fans.
