Manchester United have been one of the most successful clubs in world football winning countless titles and giving fans several moments to celebrate. And now the 13-time Premier League champions are now all set to expand their stadium in roder to accommodate more fans. After this, Old Trafford will be second-largest stadium after Barcelona’s Camp Nou.
The Red Devils bosses are keen on increasing the capacity of the ‘Theatre Of Dreams’ to 88,000.
Currently, the capacity of Old Trafford is just over 75,000 but now the club bosses are considering increasing the capacity in order to make it one of Europe’s largest.
Earlier reports stated that due to the railway line at the back of the stadium, Man Utd would have to construct a costly tunnel to expand Old Trafford’s capacity.

They also would have to destroy houses across the perimeter of the stadium. However, the latest reports suggest that the necessary upgrades can be done within the stadium’s framework without destroying houses.
It is believed that the plans to build a new stadium have been shelved. Instead, the focus now turns to talks with shareholders as to how to go about the renovation of the existing stadium. And as Manchester United managing director Richard Arnold is well aware of the demands of growth, it is believed that planning an expansion is next on their mind.
At present Nou Camp has a capacity of more than 99,000 – which Manchester United are not eyeing to match at present.

However, the expected 88,000 capacity would see them marching ahead of Real Madrid’s Bernabeu but The Tottenham Hotspur stadium would still remain the largest stadium in England. Notably, plans are already afoot in Madrid for a new and improved Santiago Bernabeu.
Sources also claim that Manchester United would not have to bring down their capacity during the anticipated expansion as there is a facility of adding two quadrants in the two corners of Sir Bobby Moore stand, which would add 7,500 seats.
As football goes through its boom period again, clubs are looking to take advantage by opening revenue lines through expanded stadiums. Inter and AC Milan have already announced plans to demolish San Siro and build a new stadium, “The Cathedral”.
Manchester United could soon join the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan when it comes to riding the new stadium’s wave.
